My mam and Dad got divorced when I was 4. My mam had depression and was going through a tough time and we lived with our dad(me and my sister.) We saw my Mam at the weekends. Soon after my Dad met another woman, had a kid and moved us 2 hours away.

I always felt like I wasn’t myself when I was at home with my Dad, mainly because he just did whatever he was told from my stepmoms perspective. Don’t get me wrong - I loved my Dad. I just always felt like I was walking on eggshells. My mam had wanted to buy me a phone, and my stepmom rejected the idea, for example. She used to dictate everything my Dad did. She didn’t speak to my mam. She put my mam down in front of me. Now my mam was no angel..but she was my mam. I was a nervous kid. Anxious. Depressed. I was brought to therapy on my mams insistence as she ‘got’ it but my Dad never understood. I remember - and this is hard for me to talk about - a time where I was constantly going to the toilet in the middle of the night and was constantly met by my stepmom on the landing giving out to me for waking her up. I was eleven.I used to pee in my room in a bottle and dispose of it after, as a result. I confided in my mam and she told my Dad as she was worried about me. I was punished by my Dad and Stepmam. (Side note - this was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write)-

When I was fifteen, my sister was 13- my sister wasn’t doing well at school(upset, not wanting to live with Dad anymore) and my Stepmam ignored her. Literally would walk around the table giving everyone dessert and not her. It was literally like a fucking soap opera. We both ended up moving up to my mam.My personal relationships with my Dad and Stepmam definitely improved after this as we saw them every other weekend, what with our new friends etc. My mam and Stepmam actually became civil and all seemed fine.

Fast forward to 2019. I’m married, wife, two kids. I was at an old childhood friends wedding where I was groomsman. Drunkenly, it was revealed by a family friend and my mam that one of my closest childhood friends was actually my half sister. 6 years older, so my older sister. We were all in shock. Her ‘dad’ didn’t know but a lot of other people in our circle did. My sister, my ‘new’ sister and me - lied to our whole lives.Fast 4ward again to 2022. Side note - COVID didn’t help at all(obviously), so I spent it in therapy. I was incredibly busy with family/work and I touched base with my Dad. Gave him a text, told him I’d ring him. He replied giving out that I hadn’t texted my Stepmam for Mothers Day. Me. The 30 year old grown ass adult. So I blocked him. I was so angry and felt like a little kid.

I spoke to my sister and we asked to meet him by himself to talk through some stuff. It was beyond time for that to happen properly. He wanted my Stepmam there and couldn’t understand why we said we only wanted him there. 🤷 we just wanted to talk to our dad.So, we met. I unloaded properly for the first time ever - about the peeing incident, the emotional blackmail, the walking on eggshells….and he denied it all. He also had never bothered coming to see his grandkids unless we asked if he was free.We told him we wanted to sit down, all of us, and sort this and move on.He went back and told her something completely different. They removed us from WhatsApp groups, uninvited themselves from a friends wedding and ghosted us.

The most hurtful thing that happened was - my wife reached out to him, saying that I was in a bad way and he said he didn’t care until I apologised to his wife.My sister eventually met him. He told me to man up and get in touch with him myself. I cut ties completely. Thoughts please.
