Farming in the Karoo — what I do
I farm in the Karoo, South Africa — a very dry, tough part of the world where you quickly learn what actually works and what doesn’t.
Most of what I share here comes from real life on the farm: sheep farming, working with veld conditions, and trying to build systems that are low-input and sustainable in our environment.
Over time, our work has naturally expanded into a few related areas:
• Sheep and livestock breeding adapted to harsh veld conditions
• Bees and natural products like tallow-based skincare
• Off-grid living and practical solar systems on the farm
• Small rural businesses run alongside farming life
I don’t see these as separate “businesses” — they’re all part of the same thing: building a practical, self-reliant life in a tough environment.
I’m not here to sell anything or push products. Just sharing what we learn, what works, and what doesn’t — from real experience.
If you’re interested in farming, off-grid living, or rural small business realities, you’re welcome to follow along.
