Minesweeper

Ok, I need your help guys. In minesweeper, when you click on a non-mine square it displays a number showing the number of adjacent squares which have mines (i.e. a number 1-8, unless no adjacent squares house mines). Yet, I've often found the game breaks this rule. In the image I'll link, you can see a black box I marked around a 2-square. There are three mines in the box. Furthermore, the 1 box in the top left corner of the marked box has 2 adjacent mines. Can anybody explain this?

Tldr: Is minesweeper broken or am I missing something?

The mine directly to the left of the 2 has an X through it, which IIRC means that you marked it as a mine but in reality it's a blank square.

That's right. Notice the 1 in the top left of the circled boxes that touches two mines. The mine below it with the X was incorrectly marked.
