As a HENRY how far would you be willing to go to support friends and family?

I’m posting under a different account as my main account reveals a lot about me and I comment here regularly. I would like to stay anonymous for some reasons.

I’m a fellow HENRY in a privileged position making £230k a year before tax. I’m not ‘fully open’ with finances, my family members have anxiety about people struggling and I always say ‘I’m doing okay financially’, my best friend doesn’t know my direct salary either, but she knows from coming to my house and the area I live in I make an okay lifestyle.

But, that’s just some context for you. In February this year my best friend (24F) got engaged to her partner (24M) of 8 years. They’re earn about 33k each and planning their wedding slowly. My best friend called me up to announce her engagement and called me separately to have a conversation.

She’s basically asked me to give her £35/£40k so they can put a deposit on a house, they only want one child and proposed I moved into the third room (they want a three bedroom house). My best friend stated if they sell the house for a bigger property and they’re get enough equity, they will give me back the money I paid.

They are starting out in their careers, they were mature students and will be HENRYS in ten years time. I’m just feeling a bit unsure if I should go through with it or not. This is money I can afford to part with, but something just doesn’t feel right. Curious to hear thoughts from fellow HENRY, it’s not so much a HENRY question but when I speak to my parents or relatives about situations their default answer is “you live in a nice house, you make good money, you can afford to part with this and that”.
