Deaf player, finally reached Immortal as a Pos 3 main
I'm 95% deaf and I use Google Recorder on my phone with the display timeout disabled to read what people say on voice chat. I'll glance at it every time I see the voice icon flash. (I can show folks what it looks like, if there's interest!)
To give you an idea of what it's like, here are some examples of things I can’t hear:
- Pudge's global ult
- LC's duel
- Pings (unless it's the spam high alert 'X' ping right next to me)
- Any peripheral or world audio
- Some audio for things happening right in front of me
- In messy teamfights, I can't distinguish various sounds at all. It just sounds like a wall of weird sound.
I started playing DotA in 2006 as a bullied loner at school. I used to spend my breaks playing Dota in the computer rooms. I'm now in my mid 30s and I finally reached something I'd been trying very, very hard to get to, playing primarily offlane.
Cried when this happened, felt like I achieved something for once in life (even though it is probably not that impressive for many people here).
