Tax Refund

Hi guys,

I recently received a letter to say that I was due a tax refund. I filled out a P800 form using my government gateway on Tuesday 28th April and selected to be paid via banking, not cheque.

I just checked the status of this application on the government gate and it says “HMRC paid you a refund of £XXX on 30 April 2026.”

I do not see this transaction or money in the given bank account.

Does anyone have prior experience of this? On the application it says “If you have not got your refund

It can take up to 3 weeks for your cheque to arrive”

Even if I requested it be sent to my bank, is there a chance they’ll send it via cheque anyway? Or does it just take time for the banks to process it?
