I hate people who smile.
I hate people who smile.
They put up a smile, fooling the world to show that they are happy. But a smile is not joy.
Joy doesn’t need anything to announce its arrival.
A smile is deliberate. Joy is instinct. One imitates the divine. The other simply is.
A smile is polite. Laughter is not.
It shakes up a room. It makes people look at you, making their weird faces, trying to fit in, suppressing their own instinct to burst, to give themselves away completely.
So now, when I see someone smile, I try to make their imitation true. To expose their fraud. To make them laugh.
Because all it takes to turn a performance into something real, is a person who loves you. As you are. For all you are.
