Home school ruined my mental health completely (parent)
Just sharing my experience.
So this isn’t the first time I have homeschooled. I homeschooled my daughter in 2024 and I really did enjoy it. My 2nd and 3rd child were quite younger so didn’t cause as much chaos and I really could spend that 1 on 1 time with my oldest.
I began homeschooling again this year, child 1 (6) and child 2 (5).
They never want to do any school related. They never listen and follow house rules (simple things like picking up our food rubbish and putting it in the bin after). And if I’m outside for example on the phone (I work casually and don’t have to work in front of them but still have to speak to clients from time to time) they will go in cupboards and pull out everything. Their clothes???? Random household crap?? Just whatever to be annoying and destructive. We done the home school meet ups. We done the extra curricular. Nothing helped their behaviour. They also rarely get good sleep as they know we spend a good portion of time at home so if they aren’t well rested I’ll just put them to nap. It’s a cycle of not good quality sleep.
They are undiagnosed. I know this as I am adhd and on the spectrum. I feel sad that I couldn’t make home school work. I guess I feel like a failure. But I think it’s okay to admit if something isn’t working for you. I still don’t 100% agree the way the school structure forces children to learn and essentially who it instructs them to be (9-5 lil robots) but I think it’s okay to admit there are positives to school and I am trying to learn to be okay with accessing that help if I am struggling.
Thank you for listening to my feelings 💕
