Treating Abscess

Troubleshooting/Tips

I am 14 weeks pp and EBF. I felt a lump at 11 weeks pp and went to gp. They prescribed me antibiotics and an ultrasound. Note I have had mastitis twice before this already. My ultrasound results noted it’s an abscess and to follow up with another course of antibiotics. Which I finished but the lump was persitent so got another ultrasound and it was reported it’s an abscess (again!) and it had grown a bit, it was also noted that if there are no clinical features then a biopsy is required.

Now my gp wants me to wait it out for another 2 weeks and do warm compresses at every feed before and after, gentle massage in shower etc to soften it and drain it naturally.

The lump isn’t painful, the area isn’t red or warm to touch (probably this is why a clogged duct turned in to an abscess).

However, I am little worried that it will keep clogging up. I will be following up with my gp after 2 weeks if there is no improvement to potentially do a biopsy and look at aspiration.

I am not sure what I am trying to get out of this post but if anyone had similar experiences please share your tips and tricks to drain this.

Disclaimer: I am not seeking medical advice, as I have already seen doc and has been following their advice.

Thanks all in advance.
