Vent and maybe some advice.
I'm going to keep this as short as possible because it would take hours to type everything.
My ex cheated then left me, and while initially I begged and pleaded for her to stay, her leaving was the nicest thing she's done to me during the entire 7 years we were together. (She left the day after my birthday if the cheating wasn't bad enough). In the early stages of the breakup I still wanted her back so I bent over backwards to be as accommodating as possible during the breakup. Let her keep things I shouldn't have, let her take shared belongings, kept silent while I heard the lies she was telling people about myself and the situation. And then I saw her with her rebound less than 4 months after the split and it was like a switch flipped in my head. I realized I was feeling guilty even thinking about moving on or prioritizing my well being over her feelings, but that shattered seeing them. I'm still not sure why I felt guilty because for the last 4 years of the relationship it was very much emotionally abusive towards me. And that's not an accusation I just throw around to make myself feel better. I was giving my everything to her while she gave nothing back, it burnt me out to a point I was so depressed I didn't even want to get up most days. All of my issues I tried to bring up would be thrown back at me the next day so I eventually just stopped bringing them up and it put me in a very dark place. I know I shouldn't blame her for all of my personal struggles but when you give everything to someone and deep down you just want them to do the same, it's hard to get past that and work on yourself.
But to continue, after seeing her with someone else so soon, it finally freed me from that guilt and feeling like I needed to be the bigger person about everything. So I reached out, and yes this may have been a bit petty but I was sick and tired of being walked on by her. So I said I wanted the gifts back I had gotten her while she was cheating on me, just to see if she'd be decent and give them back. I also asked to have the vet contacted and have my pets information changed so that I could pick up his prescriptions since when we took him in she did the paperwork. (Mind you she abandoned me with 4 pets we had raised since their birth). And finally I asked to be removed from her and her families social media. Well she didn't respond and I presume it's because I was blocked. So I contacted her mother. Said bluntly I wanted the items, the information changed and my pictures removed, well she didn't appreciate me calling her daughter a cheater so ran to my parents and threatened to use her husband's position in law enforcement as they "feared for her safety". My parents shut that nonsense down real quick because I predicted she would run to them because she did it once already and gave them a warning and showed the them conversation leading up to it. No threats were made from my end. But after that I decided I would no longer be communicating via her nutjob mother and reached out to her much more sensible father and basically said that what his wife just did was absolutely unacceptable, threatening me and my family with his position in law enforcement was crossing a line and that I could care less about the belongings anymore, I just wanted to be able to get my pets medication. He doesn't respond and I had to go through way too many customer service lines to have my pets info changed where I thought I could just ask them to make a phonecall and be done with it. Well I wake up the next morning to a text from the ex in short told me to stop contacting her or her family which pissed me off because if she'd just respond or even make the damn call I wouldn't have to. I was furious so I not so nicely told her she had some nerve asking anything from me and that if the threats and lies kept reaching my family and friends I'd begin publicly defending myself. A few hours later I apologized for the outburst and just asked that I be removed from social media and have a sentimental item returned to me(this was not a gift but something that was completely mine and most likely just mixed in with things when she ransacked our house for her things). No response so I blocked them all and was prepared to cut my losses. Then next day I wake up to my power having been cut off. When we first moved in together she set up the utilities as I was at work but I paid them from the start so I was rightfully pissed that I woke up drenched in sweat(southern heat) and had to throw out half my food. I made an angry text and said that was petty and I should invoice her for the second deposit I had to pay to have my power turned back on. Thought that was the end of everything and all strings were finally cut. I was sorely mistaken. Because the evening of the day my power had been cut I got a text from her law enforcement father. Said he filed a police report based on the prior days text/conversations. Which absolutely baffled me because I was the one being threatened during all of those conversations. So now here I am, honestly worried that something may come of this because he's a long time and pretty high ranking member of law enforcement. Every single one of them is blocked on every possible platform. And while I am not entirely proud of how I handled some of the interactions, I still believe I was justified in my anger. But this has me worried. I am young, I've got no record or even had interactions with the police before in my life. What the hell could she have possibly said to her family to convince her very calm and level headed father to throw his badge around and file a report. This behavior is so disgusting and wow did I dodge a bullet.
And of rant thanks for tuning in.
