Family tree
I just wanted to vent my frustration with the church’s ancestry app. It just seems like my family history, according to the church, is only valid if there’s been a temple sealing.
My grandfathers dad died when he was young, and so his mom remarried. Her first marriage was to a non member, so she was never endowed or temple married. Her second marriage was to a Mormon though, so of course she went through the temple and whatnot. My grandfather kept his original last name and wasn’t officially “adopted” until his 60’s (that’s a different story).
He and his step dad were super close, which I’m glad for…but the issue I have is with the church ancestry app. The line that they list for my grandfather is through the step-father (the Mormon) and not his actual father. There’s record of my original great-grandfather in other ancestry sites, but not in the church sanctioned one.
So the only thing my Mormon family see is the Mormon line and not the actual lineage. I’ve brought it up a few times to my family and extended family about the discrepancy, but they just through it under the bus.
It’s maddening to see the church bury legitimate history for the sake of throwing temple ordinances in one’s face. It’s stupid to see people disregard lineage, history or genetic ancestry for the sake of religious preference.
