I woke slowly. The dim light of the room made it difficult to make out, but something felt wrong. The more my senses came alive the more I recognized things weren’t right. This wasn’t my bed, this wasn’t my room. I could hear someone breathing lightly next to me in the bed. I don’t know how I knew, but I knew it wasn’t my wife. I worked carefully to slide out from under the covers and onto the soft, thick, carpeted floor or this mystery room. I didn’t want to risk waking whoever was in here with me.

I tried to remember the night before. It all seemed so normal. Going to sleep in my home, only to wake up here. I wasn’t a cheater and had always been faithful in my marriage, no drugs, and barely alcohol. This didn’t make sense.

My eyes scanned the room. It looked like some sort of fancy honeymoon suite. There was no privacy. The softly lit bathroom was separated from the rest of the space by only glass. There was a large shower and massive sunken tub. I made my way to the window and pulled back the floor length curtains, only for the mystery to deepen, there was no actual window. I turned around, growing increasingly suspicious of everything in the space. Where was the door? That’s when it dawned on me, there was no door!

What the hell!?!? I walked through the small sitting area, along the wall, hoping to catch something I had missed. There did appear to be some sort of drawer in the wall. Perhaps a connection to the outer world?

My mind was racing as I looked back over to the bed to see the covers stir. Was that my daughter? How did we get here?

Before I could reach any conclusion, an unseen speaker cracked to life and a voice made itself known. “Good. You are awake, and don’t seem any worse for wear. It’s time for the experiments to begin.”
