Friend [18M] makes rude jokes, I [18F] am starting to resent this

Hello, I am having some troubles with my friend. Hes been a good friend of mine for a few years, and weve been there for each other. Recently, hes been making really rude jokes and being rude in general.

Our friend group (fairly small) in general makes jokes/jabs in good fun, but sometimes he takes it too far and he says things that seem like hes really trying to be rude like commenting on my body for example. Either that or hes always making everything into a competition, even small things like "Oh you did x y or z today or this week?? Well i did x y or z WAY more than you" or he acts like a know it all and as if he is smarter than everyone else.

Him and I have always had deep conversations as we both loving learning and reading about all sorts of topics (which have of course been fun), but he says himself that he's basically never wrong. He gets very combative, even in simple discussions. He escalates over small things, always raising his voice and insisting he's 100% correct.

I cherish him a lot as a friend and for being there for me, but I can feel myself starting to resent this behavior. For those that have been in this situation before, how did you confront your friend? Or if you didnt confront them, did you cut them off? Distance yourself? If I do confront him, do I choose an assertive approach and risk throwing off the friend group or try to gentle parent him?
