Why do I feel being a stay at home mom is a privilege?
This is purely from my perspective and my experience & I do understand some women have no choice ! For a little backstory, I was raised in a household where my mother and grandmother taught me that men always come before me (my dad and brothers). So I was to cook, do dishes and laundry for them at the age of 9. Raised on the idea that staying at home is all I’d be good for which destroyed any hopes of college/careers… Fast forward 10 years, I meet my now husband. On our first date, I explained that being a stay at home was really the only future I saw for myself and luckily for me, it’s exactly what he wanted; a woman to raise his children and maintain the home. Now I’m 28 years old, have a job for only 15hrs a week. The days I work is my money that I can spend on whatever I want, nevertheless, I do help with small bills (wifi, Spotify, all our streaming services) my husband pays the rent, utilities, insurance and both car notes. And for those wondering, my husband was against me getting my little part time job because “I don’t need it”. Am I stupid for being too dependent? Was this all manipulation by outdated misogynistic ideals from my culture? Is this all I’m meant to do with my life or should I be grateful?
