How many steroid shots until you decide on surgery?

I’ve had HS flare-ups since my early 20’s but they’ve usually always went away on its own within 2 weeks. Now I’m 34 and have been dealing with a pretty intense stage 3 flare-up in my left arm pit for 4 months now. After my first steroid shot, my HS came back within 20 days so I went back to my dermatologist and got a stronger dose. After my 2nd shot, it came back after ~30 days.

For those of you that have tried steroid shots and eventually gotten surgery, when did you ultimately decide to just move forward with surgery? I’m thinking of trying the steroid shot one last time and if it comes back I’m definitely getting an excision.
