Do I count as a first generation college student?

So, I've always considered myself not a first generation because my dad went, HOWEVER, on my mom's side of the family, no one has ever gone to college, so if looking at my mom's side of the family, I'd be a first generation college student, but not on my dad's. Does that count for anything or does it not matter? Just wanted to check since it can have some benefits, might as well see, worst case is just no I don't count in any way, thank you to any responders!
