branded and expensive college counsellors services

Writing abt a really bad experience of my bro with very expensive college counselor..from ivy xxx...let's say ben. they could afford him but consider this a note of warning for all who hire these kind of folks. they got straight rejections from all T20s and it caused lot of pain. More than that consider the admission opportunity wasted from poor advice. They did get into t35 program on their own. Top quartile sat, 3.95 gpa uw, 15 aps max rigor and ecs exceeding or as per advice of this counselor

1. This company and this guy don't following institutional priorities that happen to change every year, trends, college research or anything remotely similar. they have a worn out formula for advising that they don't seem to change over decades. In short, not doing their jobs

2. Charge rip-off pricing with zero references provided. Attitude to pin blame on applicant after rejections and ask more money for post marten. this guy was shameless to come back asking for more money after ED rejection for his own advice.

3. These kinda counselors have gone to Ivy colleges and do have somewhat impactful revisions to essays. that's pretty much it. rest is all applicant work and merit. bigger problem is the strategy they use is very dated, no due diligence into what works and may not in line with college trends that change every year. And they charge astronomical fees for their so called secret sauce.

Next time, please run away when faced with this above kind of college consultant asking for rip off fee. Nothing is worthy of anything more than 200-300 per hr that too with planned limited number of hours. wanted to share for future applicants not getting swindled by these guys. you can dm me for details.
