How long does it take for employers to get back to you?

I don't know whether or not I'm just impatient, but it's been a week and I've gotten nothing back. I really want a job and I'm scared to apply for more until I get an email back because the idea that two companies might accept me at the same time makes me nervous, because where do you even go from that??? Obviously I doubt it, but still.
