Approved 2010, But Never Filed AIRE

Post-Recognition

My mother and I both had our Italian citizenship jure sanguinis recognized/approved by the LA consulate in 2010. Unfortunately, we did not properly understand the importance of the AIRE or the timing of it—we thought it was a formality to allow voting and had no immediate plans to go visit family in Italy.

Time passed. I now have 3 kids, all born well before the 2025 law changes. None of their births have been registered abroad.

Am I screwed? If I submit the AIRE for myself and try to register their births with our commune now, will they accept it? Or will they say we took too long? Or try to use the 2025 law to refuse to recognize the kids?

Aaaaaagh! 😫
