Vaginal Wall Hematoma

Discussion

Looking for people who have had a similar experience. I want to hear your story!

I gave birth to my first 3-months ago. I was induced at 40 weeks, folly balloon, epidural, and pitocin. After 24hrs of labor, I pushed for 50 minutes and had my beautiful baby! All was well (:

8hrs later I woke up in EXCRUCIATING pain in my rectum. I thought I was going to throw up and told my husband that they needed to sedate me… after 2hrs of nurses thinking this was hemorrhoid, an OB finally did a pelvic exam and discovered a hematoma on my vaginal wall.

A CT Scan found the hematoma was massive, 20cm*15cm*10cm and was pushing up against my rectum. I could not sit on my butt in the hospital bed for days even when on high level drugs because the pain was unbearable ….

I ended up needing a blood transfusion due to how much blood was lost in the hematoma. We spent 5 nights in the hospital, while I was on and off surgery prep as the doctors decided whether or not to operate. (Trying to breastfeed for the first time while not being able to eat or drink is not pleasant….)

Finally, I was sent home. I cried on the way home…I felt like this was a TRAUMATIC experience.

After being home for 4 days I still couldn’t sit on my bottom. Then I went to the bathroom and saw TONS of blood… my husband immediately took me to the emergency room where it was diagnosed that my hematoma was draining. I soaked through two pads and a pair of sweatpants in 40 minutes… blood rushing down my legs.

Given my body was draining the hematoma and was hemoglobin was somewhat stable, they again decided not to operate. The next 2-3 weeks I was in diapers while it drained with pain again in my rectum from swelling. I passed blood clots the size of baseballs until it eventually healed.

Needless to say, in the hospital, nurses with 20yr careers told me they had never heard of this before…..I’m hoping to find someone with a similar experience or a vaginal wall hematoma.

Has anyone experienced this or something similar?!
