im new and i how am i supposed to gain PVP experience

Everytime i attempt to play LMS casual, on any of the worlds, Casual or not, no one is even playing. at all times, i could hop on at 9 am, 12 am, 3 pm, 5 pm, 10 pm and not a single soul is playing. i've been attempting to play 1 match for so long, has it always been like this?
