turning chaptered work into series of oneshots?
A while back I wrote what was originally just going to be a quick oneshot... and then I wrote more. and more and more. it's now technically my longest work on ao3 as of now (which isn't that long it's like 15k total), but I kind of regret making it a single chaptered work. Each chapter feels like a complete, albeit short, story that effectively has it own plot. In the last chapter, I accidentally anchored it to a point in time, which is frustrating because I feel like at some point I might want to write a chapter that takes place before that point in time and it would be awkward and clunky if I added a chapter 5 like "haha whoops this actually takes place before chapter 4!" So I'm thinking about making it a series of oneshots instead so that way I can easily rearrange the order of the chapters. But I also don't want to lose the comments I got on chapters 2-4 or confuse my subscribers (all - checks notes - 12 of them lol). Does anyone have any insights or advice about this?
