Need advice on what to do

Problem/Goal:

I’m currently being directly accused by classmates of posting an anonymous cheating-related expose about a quiz in our CE class, but I genuinely have no idea who posted it and had zero involvement. Our frienda told us that it was already bwing taked about in other sections.

Because of this, people are glaring at us, assuming we’re responsible, and it’s seriously affecting my mental health and comfort in class. We’re planning to talk to our professor to clarify things, but I’m overwhelmed and honestly don’t know the best way to handle this.

For anyone who’s experienced false accusations, rumors, or toxic class situations:

What should we do? How do we protect our reputation without making things worse? Should we escalate immediately, or try handling classmates first?

Any advice would really help right now.
