The Year of the Rat...

Discussion

Can we please just stop about "rats"? That word has officially lost all of it's original meaning. It's called "semantic bleaching".

Rats were originally extract campers and someone who played friendly and betrayed you.

Now though the PvE community as a whole uses it to describe anyone who is pvping. I PVP heavy and rarely am in friendly-ish lobbies. But I am pvping. I shoot on sight. And I am not a rat. I'm not sorry I don't announce myself and challenge you to a duel. I am not sorry I was in this building first and you came charging in like no one is a threat, so I waited patiently until you charged into my area and I shot you in the face. I am not sorry you sprinted over tiles roofs for 400 yards and I followed you based on sound alobe and then killed you when you stopped. I am not sorry I saw you run to an extract and I followed you in and killed you.

However, I am sorry that someone would babysit inside an extract and simply wait for someone to show up trying to leave. I am sorry someone pretending to be cool shoots you in the back. But those are rats and rats are natural occurrences in life. But that doesn't make everyone who shoots at you a rat.

So stop calling me and anyone who shoots at you a rat. You're in a PvEvP game. Extraction shooters as a whole are 99% a player verse player genre. Without it there is no threat, no thrill, no tension, no nervous extracting, no hiding from danger. This is exactly what makes the game so fun. The ups and downs and the emotional rollercoaster as you make your way through the rust belt attempting to survive after society has fallen.

If you think in real life this would happen and everyone would get along. You are mistaken. No one enjoyed the Walking Dead or similar post-apacolyptic genres just because everyone banded together to kill zombies all day. It was because human nature gave us tension zombies could never do alone.

PS: let's also just be more respectful as pvpers. Just because you died or won a fight doesn't mean you need to tell me I'm garbage and a POS and to go get fucked. I "GG" or "Good fight" everyone I die too or kill. What has everyone so salty that YOU won the fight and then call me everything in the book? Be civil. It's just a game.
