Dell XPS 8950 GPU Upgrade
What's up guys, long time lurker first time poster. I'm upgrading my Dell XPS 8950's GPU and these things are always fun because everything is non standard. Anyway, I just bought the "PNY NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 5070 Ti Slim Dual-Fan, Dual-Slot OC Graphics Card" since it appears to fit in there, and should be low enough power draw but still a good recent card to play games in 4k and do some local LLM action on the side. Anyway, the PSU I have I just discovered doesnt have enough 8-pin PCIe connectors. (Wah wah) So, I have purchased the 1000W Dell PSU as thats the max for this case that I know of. And it apparently has 2x 8-pin PCIe connectors and 2x 6-pin PCIe connectors. So that should allow me to get this done with some sort of adapter, right? So I guess my questions are - 1.) Are there any other PSUs that fit in the Dell 8950 chassis and work with the mobo, that have either a native 12VHPWR connector or 3x 8-pin PCIe connectors? 2.) If not, can I use a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter for 1 of the 3? 3.) Or, could I use one of those adapters that combines 2x 6-pins into 1x 8-pin? I read mixed things about that route. Seems potentially unsafe and maybe not necessary. So I am not sure what the answer is here. Anyone done this? I welcome opinions, experience, and any input you have on the matter that might lead me in the right direction. Cheers!
