Silicone o-rings safe to wear constantly?

I've had my septum pierced for over a year, I love the jewelry I have in but it's pointed at the bottom so it's very obvious when it's not centered. I saw someone recommend silicone o-rings to keep it centered. Is that something you could do permanently? Or would it need to be for special occasions?
