Can you even learn a new language with ADHD?
Hi all,
I’m extremely frustrated with how bad I am at learning languages. 4 years of taking french in high school and nothing. 6 years of learning chinese because I was in China, nothing. Then 1 year now trying to learn dutch for my partner, and I’m gettting nowhere.
I just can’t find the enthusiasm to be consistent with my studies, I know I’m not just dumb because every now and again I’ll get into one of my hyperfixation moods and hard study a few lessons intensely and the results stick. Everything else just fades away.
I’ve been trying different tools like Quizlet, and Anki. Although, it makes studying more efficient, it doesn’t appeal to my dopamine channels so I rarely go back to it. Duolingo was what I saw the most consistency with but still I don’t think I had a streak over 2 weeks ever. Plus the fact that their lessons often differ from my class requirements made it difficult for me to prioritise it.
I would imagine a learning tool for someone with ADHD needs gamification like duolingo but more stakes, more instant rewards and customisability.
Let me know if anyone else is also struggling with especially languages and if you found a tool that can help.
