Planning vs. The Man

I've been using paper planners for years and have slowly devised a system that works for me. Among its features I keep separate planners for life and for work.

My boss of the past three years has made snarky comments about my planners from time to time -- "Oh, RedactedToast and their little notebooks," that sort of thing. Eventually he adopted an app for the office, Trello, that he began to require staff to use for scheduling tasks and communicating. I was a slow adopter because of my planning system, and he talked to me about it more than once. That said, my boss is also a control freak and I always suspected that he disliked the fact that he could not legally monitor my paper planner and the Trello system is basically surveillance.

Well, I had my yearly review a couple of weeks ago. It was a shitty review for a lot of reasons, but one of them was that he said I have to stop using paper and pen notes immediately. I should add that a coworker also openly uses paper and pen notes in our staff meetings so this seemed really arbitrary.

I decided to resign. I should add that this was not the only reason, but it sure helped.

Has anyone else experienced pushback for planning at work?
