SteamCharts is bad for gaming

Discussion / Question

In 2026 gamers are more obsessed with how many people are playing a game than actually playing games. All of this being driven by SteamCharts. 20 years ago people weren’t obsessing over how many other people were playing a game, they just played the game.

Constantly on social media all you see is comments on how many people are playing a game or x game is losing x amount of players. It creates a toxic cycle of hate campaigns against games and serves zero purpose in the grand scheme of things.

None of the people obsessed with a game’s population online stand to make or lose any money on the game, it’s just obsession for obsession sake.

Only people who should care about a game’s population are the devs. IMO Valve should do away with SteamCharts.
