How do you balance enjoying the ride with staying consistent about wearing full gear?

I have been riding for a while now and I genuinely enjoy it every time I get on the bike. Lately though, I have been thinking more about gear and how consistent I actually am with it. Most of the time I wear a helmet, gloves, and at least a jacket, but I will admit there are short rides where I am tempted to skip some pieces, especially in hot weather or when I am just going nearby.
I know the usual advice is to always wear full gear, and I understand why. At the same time, I feel like a lot of riders have their own personal line where they decide what is “enough” depending on the situation. I am trying to figure out where that line should realistically be without lying to myself.

For those who have been riding longer, did your habits change over time? Did you become stricter about gear, or did you settle into something more flexible depending on the ride?
I am not looking for a perfect answer, just curious how others approach this in real life and what has worked for you.
