Voir Dire tips?
Jury trial in one week - personal injury. ID lawyer is doing what ID lawyers do - painting the portrait of an exaggerating plaintiff.
My guy is an African immigrant in a not especially diverse County. I’ve had rising levels of concern about the hyped up Somali fraud stories out of Minnesota, which have been getting outsized coverage in national conservative media. Plaintiff is from West Africa, has a green card, works for his money. Concerned about the association even though he doesn’t fit the profile.
Without being direct (need to jointly submit questions with Defense), are there questions I can ask in voir dire that will help smoke out the regular listeners of right-wing media/podcasts who are more likely to immediately associate African immigrants with scammers and frauds? We don’t have expanded voir dire. Just a question, then the juror stands up or doesn’t, followed by a short bench interview on the yes answers.
