What am I doing wrong?
I keep talking to people and they get so offended by their interpretation of what I said...or something I say just rubs them the wrong way. This is how I figured out I was autistic in the first place, years ago, but I thought I was doing better. Now I just can't figure out what to do. I've had a really hard time lately, I broke my arm and discovered I couldn't rely on anyone in my life for any kind of support, and it caused a major depressive spell.
I keep thinking of that saying, "If you meet assholes all day, you're the asshole", and like, yeah, probably, but I literally cannot help it. I'll say something I think is totally innocuous and people will get so offended and interpret it in a way that just seems so off base. It's exhausting for me to try and micromanage everything I say and how it MIGHT be interpreted and I just want to be able to have a conversation without someone getting nasty.
I've had this problem all my life and I just don't know what to do. I thought maybe I'd gotten better but I guess not. Does anyone else have this problem?
