1. He forged a long Black Blade.

He wields one of the only 2 Black Blades in all of fiction, a feat achieved by infusing the sword with constant, unfathomable amounts of Armament Haki over countless battles.

2. His presence alone made his rival invent new moves.

Shanks's obs killing is not an offensive skill to defeat his enemies, he HAD to invent it to survive against the Hawk eyes. Art mimics nature, Mihawk vs Shanks is a mirror of the nature; Prey vs Predator. To hide from Mihawks sharp Hawk eyes, Shanks had to invent this ability, so he wouldnt get slaughtered. Its not a feat, its a prey adapting to its predator.

3. Has a cool ass boat and he sails alone

He sails with a boat with a big cross on it without a crew all day. He alone is the honoured one. He doesnt need friends, he doesnt need a fleet, Mihawk represents the peak of Nietzschean philosophical writing. He is the ultimate Übermensch. He doesn't have a crew because other human beings would only weigh down his aura.

4. He bends the One Piece universe

The One Piece universe is very unserious at times and goofy. Most "cool" characters have known downsides to them, like Katakuris face, Kaidos drunkness or Rogers relationship with his crew. Mihawk completely bends this rule with absolutely no unnecessary goof to him. Ultimately he was written so good that the author couldnt get himself to ruin his character. From an author like Oda, thats a crazy feat right there.

5. Mysterious backstory

Almost every beloved character has a cliche or generic backstory to them that was revealed long ago. We are 1181 chapters into this story yet we have almost no knowledge about him. Thats caused by how great of a man Mihawk is of course. Oda simply realized that he had created a character so insanely good that he couldnt write a backstory worthy for him. So he did the only option that would honor Mihawk, and left it blank and mysterious for the readers imagination to fill the gap.
