RX 6700 XT black screen crash only in Diablo – driver breaks until DDU reinstall (dual monitor)
Hey everyone,
I’m running into a really frustrating issue and I’m trying to figure out if this is a known problem or something specific to my setup.
System:
- GPU: AMD RX 6700 XT
- OS: Windows 11
- Dual monitor setup with DP (different refresh rates 165/144 Hz)
Issue:
Everything works perfectly in general, including other games (Rocket League runs completely fine).
However, when I play Diablo IV, after some time (not always immediately), I get:
- One screen goes black and suddenly the PC freezes
- Audio continues (system still responsive in the background, even if Im on a call it keeps going )
- Driver reset (Ctrl + Shift + Win + B does NOT recover the display
- I’m forced to hard reboot
After reboot:
- Only the secondary monitor works
- Primary monitor stays black / not properly detected
Only fix so far:
- Boot into safe mode
- Use DDU
- Reinstall AMD drivers
After that, everything works again… until it crashes again in the game.
What I’ve tried:
- Clean driver installs (DDU multiple times)
- Different driver versions (not just the latest)
- GPU stress tests → no crashes, no artifacts
- Temps are fine (~60–70°C under load)
- Other games work perfectly
Important detail:
This ONLY started happening after going back to Diablo. Althought the first time it happened was playing ALSO Diablo a couple of seasons ago.
Logs:
- Event Viewer shows nothing related to GPU crashes
- Only Kernel-Power from forced shutdown
Has anyone experienced something similar?
At this point it feels like some kind of driver/game interaction or multi-monitor issue, but I’d really like to avoid having to disable monitors or limit my setup just to play one game.
Any help or similar experiences would be really appreciated.
