"Why should we accept centrists/moderates/right-wingers into the tent, but not accept people like Hasan?"
I saw someone here ask why we're apparently okay taking in a moderate/right-winger into the tent, but not courting people like Hasan.
Firstly, the average person in the US is to the right of the Democratic Party, especially on social issues. For all the people saying "Dems abandoned trans people", there are 10x-20x saying that Dems went too far in "transing the kids" or whatever. The brand of the Democratic Party in the minds of those people is not that far from "trans surgeries for illegal immigrants". The dominant narrative about the Democratic Party is that it's a bunch of hysterical, wokescolding libs who hate America and can only screech about Trump. You don't break that narrative by courting an tankies and socialists.
Secondly, the American electorate skews older, whiter, and richer than the average person in America, and these are exactly the demographics that do not support left-populism/socialism/Marxism/whatever Hasan and his fans say they are. To court Piker and others like him, we would be losing votes from people who are far more likely to vote.
Thirdly, Hasan and his crowd can't even suppress their gag reflex enough to stop criticizing Dems to get Trump/MAGA out of power. Even something like "we need to wholeheartedly support them out there and vote to get them into power at least until Trump is out" doesn't come out of Hasan's mouth.
Given all of this, it makes absolutely no sense to open the tent to the populist left as strongly as you would someone more to the party's right.
