Why do people say it's sus if a woman tells your boyfriend she thinks you're pretty?

Basically what the title says. My boyfriend's female friends and coworkers sometimes tell him that I'm hot/pretty/etc., both in front of me and when I'm not around. I've never thought anything of it but I see people online saying that women who do that are kind of shady. I don't understand why, isn't it just a compliment?
