O2 Demanding money for an account that doesnt exist.
Hi all, please help...
I'm at my wits end with O2. I'll try to keep this short but there's alot of information.
3 years ago I took out a sim only 2 year contract. O2 have a 30 day cancellation period with a termination fee or a free 14 day cancellation period called a cooling off period.
Within about 10 days or so of trying the new sim I decided it wasn't for me as the signal in my area was pretty poor. So I went back to EE who as part of my new deal would automatically contact O2 and arrange cancellation of my old contract. GREAT.
EE tell me its now cancelled etc. One month passes and I get a bill from O2 for £485.62. I called them up to challenge why I had a bill when it was cancelled within their free period. I can't remember exactly what was said over the phone but I refused to pay.
A week or so after I see O2 list a default on my credit profile. Then a automatic payment of £485 was taken. Called up O2 to challenge them they said its EEs fault for not cancelling in time so to ask EE for compensation.
Call up EE who refuse any part of it and say nope it's O2s fault we told them xyz...
In the end I contacted my bank who refunded me and agreed I was right.
I opened up a case with equifax to remove the default. After a few weeks they ruled in my favour and reset my credit back to what it was, case closed.
3 years now pass and I've heard nothing
I recieve an email from equifax stating O2 have reopened the case and want £485 for account number xxxxx
I immediately challenge O2 via equifax who are adding i owe them money.
Ive called up O2 about 10 times and provided my name, address, phone number, email and account number and they CANT FIND ANYTHING IN MY NAME.
Support suggest I go to my local store. So off i go to my local O2 for the woman behind the till to pick up a phone and ring the customer support number and to tell me to "deal with them" once again they know nothing of the account.
I have sent threatening pre legal action letters to their credit referrals team to be met with a response of yeah you owe us money for the account but then won't go into any account details.
I keep hitting a dead end no one can find anything in my name and O2 have now opened a new default on my credit account.
Ive contacted citizens advice who told me to send a signed for letter to their head office and said they have breached their own contract. I have sent this off today and allowed a 14 day response period for all information regarding this account.
I have also contacted CEDR telecoms ombudsman who are taking their sweet time to get back to me.
TLDR
O2 claim I owe them money for an account I closed years ago and now they can't find any proof or account information in my name to let me sort out this issue. I keep hitting a dead end and I think I need legal advice.
Thank you!
