I was stuck on the highway

So if anyone saw I was stuck on the highway and I took my car to the mechanic. They say it’s the MAF, now I’ve replaced one on my Impreza and it wasn’t hard and it was cheap. The mechanic is saying that the MAF is really hard to get ahold of but I’m seeing them for sale for roughly $80. And they would like to charge me $500. Is this truly a hard job? Should I just call the mechanic and tell them I’ll take my car back? Could they be speaking of a different MAF? Something harder to work on?
