How do you care for your own health needs?
Specifically in the US, do all of you have your own primary care physician, or do you self prescribe maintenance meds, or a hybrid of the two? I ask because I’m curious, but also I’m running into a lot of issues finding a respectable PCP. I’m a psychiatrist and on low dose of an antihypertensive, and my current PCP will not send refills more than 6 months. No other risk factors. NOT asking for medical advice, but more an example. I can check my bps at home and if they’re stable, is it ethically immoral to just prescribe it myself? I know I need one for blood work and such. Previous PCP long wait times, rude front desk staff.
I wish I could find someone for the yearly labs / physical, and can manage the rest on my own at this point. Just a little frustrated and it’s simple things that I could easily manage but want to do right and therefore have a PCP, but it’s so inconveniencing.
