Can a dentist miss infection

Recently had 2 teeth extracted as one was very infected. Did 2 rounds of antibiotics before I was able to be seen by a dentist. Im now 9 days since dentist visit and have a slight pain (1/2 out of 10) at the extraction site and right lymph node. I went back in at day 5 they prescribed another antibiotic and mouth wash. How likely is it that a dentist would miss if the infection spread to my jaw bone? Or do I just go another week or two and see if everything calms down and goes back to normal?
