Does it sound like there are certain careers that run in my family?
Or shared overall paths. My mother was a social worker (an unlicensed one) when I was in high school, and I am now interested in that field myself, even though I don’t like my mother very much - I was interested in psychology first, and it was the same for my mother.
My paternal grandmother mentioned, I think, that two of her aunts were both midwives - I found this interesting since I know one of my first cousins was trying to become a CNA (who actually grew up around paternal grandma and the family.) My mother’s maternal grandma (my great grandmother) was a nurse, and when I was in high school I had my heart set on nursing.
My maternal grandmother was an accountant, and my maternal grandfather was a journalist for a radio station (he had a bachelors degree in communications from cal state east bay.) I am not a numbers person, so accounting is not something I considered seriously. I loved writing when I was younger. It’s hard to say because my maternal grandpa’s parents were not expected to go behind elementary or middle school education levels, so who knows what either of them would have chosen if there were higher expectations for them and greater opportunities?
I have actually more recently been considering trying to become a CNA myself because I realized after seeing someone vomit recently and actually having the least reaction to it that I am probably actually not so squeamish after all. I used to get nauseous when I saw people vomit in front of or around me, like it used to give me bad anxiety. I think that I’m growing desensitized to it as I grow older.
I may see more similarities if I talk to more extended family members.
But are there any careers that run in your family?
