At what point do you go no contact with in laws?

Vent

I just need to vent and get some outside perspective.

For a while now I’ve felt judged by my husband’s family. My job (LPN), how much I work (about 30 hours a week), even my health. I have an autoimmune disease that can hit me hard sometimes and instead of support I get comments comparing me to other people or implying I should be doing more. So I started pulling back.

About a month ago my father in law's girlfriend noticed I was pulling away and we had a long talk about honest communication. It actually went really well and we both agreed to do better, which is why what I'm about to say hit me hard.

I’ve been dealing with some stressful stuff at work and my mom made a vague Facebook post about removing yourself from toxic environments. No names, nothing about work, just a general post.

Now, my mother has worked for my father in law for ten years. My father in law assumed this post was about his company and proceeded to call my mom on the phone and just went off on her. Like really REALLY nasty, vulgar stuff. Calling her names, blaming her for his stress, and said she’s the reason his blood pressure is high and messing with his ability to fly (hobby pilot/part time jet pilot) and said she took away the only thing that matters to him.

The thing is, he already has a lot of heart issues. So that’s not new. But he put it on her anyway.

My mom does a ton for his business. She basically helps keep it running. And she ended up in tears after that call.

Also before anyone asks, my husband can’t really get involved in this for a lot of reasons. We’ve talked about it and we’re handling things separately when it comes to contact and respecting each other's decisions.

At this point I just don’t want to be around them anymore.

I also tend to take things pretty hard emotionally, so I’m trying to make sure I’m not overreacting.

So I guess I’m wondering if anyone else has gotten to this point with their in laws.
