Does anyone here have experience with "SHIP"? They have reached out to me as a LL, but I have concerns.
Some context about my house:
I have a house in Kitchener that I live in, and I rent out 3 of my rooms (I am aware this is a non-RTA situation). I do have house rules that are "strict", but mainly it's for people who really like the order and see it as a good thing.
That is to say, I don't normally have issues. I don't really need to spend any time on enforcing rules. My roommates expect me to find people are a compatible with this arrangement. (No cannabis, No overnight guests, restricted guest policy etc)
SHIP seems to be a non-profit that helps house people on assistance. They also help people with mental health issues, but that does not always mean unstable, nor does it explicitly mean that their housing situation is a result of mental health.
I am open to ODSP/ social assistance because if they are a good fit, it doesn't really matter.
My top priority is providing a safe, and consistent environment for my roommates. I don't compromise on this to fill a room quickly.
SHIP mentions there are supports in place etc on their site, but I don't know what their expectations are of me.
I am wondering how likely it is that I would find someone with SHIP who is compatible with this living arrangement, and what happens if things go wrong.
Also I think it would be very helpful to know people's experiences with SHIP from the Tenant perspective too.
Thank you.
