To all the single people 30 and above, are you guys happy? Is marriage the only option like most of the parents think?

Ask Thirties

I’m 28, turning 29 soon, and honestly my life has always been boring. Growing up, I was darker-skinned and overweight, and relatives often said it would be hard for me to get married. I was a kid, but those comments stuck with me and with my parents, who started worrying early on. Even classmates made similar remarks, and while others my age dreamed about love and relationships, I never really saw that for myself from then on because I was clear on the stance getting me married would be hard for my parents.

After puberty, I lost weight and my skin tone lightened a bit. I could see the relief in my parents, which said a lot. Now, at this age, I’ve had a few situationships, but nothing lasting. And unlike my friends, they at least have the PLA of a plan for marriage. I still can’t picture marriage or even have a plan for it.

My parents are sick worried about what will happen when I become an old lady. But I keep wondering does marriage have to be the ultimate destination for everyone? For those in their 30s and still single, are you happy? Do you feel lonely? How did you convince your parents?

If you ask me how I am doing rn, do I feel lonely or not, currently I am just trying to not piss off my manager and maybe switch jobs soon.
