So many times I'll see people judge things without a single grain of grace, just a little benefit of the doubt. It's so often just assuming the worst, a reasonable explanation is then hard to find.

And sometimes I find it pretty funny, if I'm honest. Watching a screenshot without context be judged by the internet. The things people come up with, that they say they 'know' and 'this tells me that...' is sometimes so unhinged, I can't help but laugh😂. It's like people seeing a video of someone making a nasty face to a dog, and then instead of thinking "oh, they might be having a bad day", they go "wow. I bet they kick puppies in their free time." No idea where you got that, but hilarious that *that* was where your brain went.

Buttttt other times it's also just sad. If we all were just a little less judgy and had a bit more grace to give, the whole archive would be such a nicer place. Just for your own state of mind, honestly.

A fic having a wrong tag *could* mean they're trying to get more audience and they're attention seekers and how dare they!!! Or... it was a mistake. A comment that has a bad 'tone' *could* mean they're demanding and entitled and rude, or maybe they didn't mean that at all. Someone saying they don't ship sometimes *can* mean they're homophobic, or... they just don't like the dynamic.

I don't know, I think the culture of instantly screenshotting something to get strangers on Twitter/TikTok/Tumblr/Reddit/wherever to say it's bad made this a lot worse over the years.

I've always said I wish communication was more popular😔 . A simple "what do you mean" or "was that intended" goes such a long way. So many people treat everyone like a group, but we're not groups. We're all individuals, and I wish we could treat each other like that as well.

(Except bots. But bots are not people, so we can keep grouping them under 'shit that needs to die'👍)

Catching yourself thinking badly of someone, then asking nicely, and it being resolved with a simple 'ohhh oops, thanks!' or something really makes you realize that. Why are we doing this to ourselves?

(And yes, there will always be people who actually suck. But so many times it's instantly assumed that someone sucks, especially when something is so minor. And then it turns out it was nothing.)

Anyone else wish people gave each other a bit more grace?
