Every morning at 7am in a Chinese city, firecrackers go off for 5 minutes to wake everyone up. Does this happen in your city?

I lived in Chengdu and this never happened. Then I moved to a smaller city in Hunan and every morning it was like this, firecrackers going off for 5 minutes non-stop outside every apartment building. But when I complained to the older chinese neighbours about it, they looked at me as if I was the weird one for complaining, like it was a public service and the most normal thing in the world.

The architecture of the buildings also created an echo, to the extent that it was deafening to me on the 25th floor of the apartment building.
