Can there ever be a PvP multiplayer?

Coop multiplayer made me think how a PvP would be so awesome to have. Idk how it would work but imagine doing a 4 player coop run and at the end you can battle each other to see who escaped the spire. It would be hard to implement but I think it'd be fun
