So I just finished Suzerain, and this game hasn’t been thought through.

Suzerain: Sordland

I invested in economics (market) while still defending workers right and enabling women’s right. I got constant reports that the economy was making a good return (it was at stable) and we had -12 debt at turn 9. Out of nowhere, my budget decreases -18. Why? The only explanation I find is that accumulating alot of debt lowers the trust of the financial markets. Ok, I get that. But max is -20, and we have trade agreements with neigbouring countries (including cheap coal and good exports) and got investments from Arcasia all the while rebuilding critical infrastructure and investing in local economies. So from Parts 1-9 I get constant positive feedback that economy is recovering and from Part 9 onwards all of a sudden a Great Depression? There was no international crisis, there was peace, growth,… Great Depressions don’t come out of nowhere.

Politically, I was trying to accumulate as much power as I could. I failed to pass the reform of the Constitution. It honestly doesn’t make much sense how you can try to centralize power while leaving Soll’s status alone and he still turns against you. The deal the nationalists and liberals offer you regarding the Bludish community doesn’t make a lick of sense from the nationalist POV. The conservatives promised me their support but later they still campaigned against it?

Ok whatever, reforming the constitution failed but that doesn’t mean game over. Make a deal with Koronti to have the media on your side, partly privatize some corporations and remove fat Walter (who I was on good terms with but didn’t take the bribe while still choising Underhall since the advisors said it was the best option) from position and give the shares to Koronti. Also didn’t accept his car but still kept him friendly and allied. Removed the spy secretary while trusting Lucian and warning Petr to step up his game as VP.

Made extra budget for education (especially rural neighborhoods, higher salaries for teachers and more equality).
Made extra budget for the army (focused on air force, joined ATO, warmed up to Arcasia and avoided any form of conflict with other nations).
Made extra budget for police (established law and order, removed Special Status Zone, established Secret Police who dealt with both Chief of Justice and Secretary).
Made not cuts or extra budget for healthcare, partly privatized it and made budget for Polio virus.

All of a sudden, all information leaks. Lucian betrays me out of nowhere and even the head of the bank turns against me.

So, did these developers have any notion how politics or economics work? I graduated in both, that’s why I bought this game. I was looking forward to political intrigue, international alliances and important non-black-and-white decision making. I got most of that in the beginning, and none of that in the end.

I got jailed because my son failed his exams and I gave him a chance to study again (despite having paid with my own money for his private schools, Serge’s childrens education, this country being corrupt af so how does this even make headlines? Plus we have a former dictator living on an island being payed by the state and you’re telling me no one cares?)
I failed Constitution reforms? Is that a ground on being jailed? I made alliances, stabilized the economy, improved education, equality, the army, law & order… the ministers at point, even Lucian himself, commented on how I had incredible support among conservatives, good support from liberals and nationalists. I had 59% of the votes in all of the polls, a re-election would have been won easily.
And even with the impeachment nonsense, Petr doesn’t show up on the trial? He becomes my successor? Mf would have been burned by the relation he had with the secretary. Also makes no sense.
