CLARITY is so f*cking underrated. (Why you are losing to competitors who are worse than you).
Years ago, I worked as a white-label digital contractor. Big agencies would hand me a $10,000 budget and tell me to just build pages and push pixels for their clients.
Just a list of tasks with no strategy or intention.
It broke me. I felt like I was wasting the most important currency of my life — my time — trading my hours for building liabilities instead of assets. I knew exactly what these businesses needed to actually grow, but nobody at the agency cared about the end customer. They just treated the founders like wallets. It felt so fucking bad.
I never met those founders face-to-face back then, but I saw their analytics. I saw some of them bleeding money, closing operations and fading into irrelevance because core assets of their business were built on poor, unresearched assumptions.
Running a business without clarity is like having a hole in your energy sphere. You run in circles, working 80-hour weeks, and you still lose. You feel empty. You feel screwed. Because you kinda are!
And the brutal truth is that you don't lose because your craft is bad. You lose because someone else just serves people with more clarity. They show more proof, they answer fears directly, and they communicate their value better than you do.
Btw, I am not a tech incubator guy, I grew up working on markets with my parents. In my early career I’ve worked in carpentry, construction, textile manufacturing, managed installing doors and windows, worked in real estate, and personally talked to customers and packed 100+ e-commerce orders a day growing online shop from 120 orders to 450+.
I love the craft. I care deeply about tradesmen, builders, architects, manufacturers, service providers, and local family businesses because you are the ones actually building and maintaining civilization. Everyone else just consumes. You wake up and do the hard stuff, and you deserve the life you are trying to build.
But here is the absolute truth about why many of you are struggling right now: To the outside world, you look like you aren't even f*cking operating anymore.
Best case scenario? You have a generic website listing the exact same features as every other guy in your city.
How the hell is a customer supposed to know you are the right fit? And why should they have to call you just to ask the exact same basic questions you answer 100 times a week? They land on whatever page you have, get confused, get a phone call from their mom, and forget you ever existed 5 seconds later.
You need to make yourself part of their imagination. Show the projects. Share the feel. Answer their deepest fears. Build the bridge so that when they are ready, they cross it to find you.
Let me tell you what happens when you stop polishing assumptions, pushing pixels and actually get clear.
About two months ago, I partnered with Jason at Waldronbros Woodworking. Honestly, he said he didn't need it, but I pitched him the leanest idea of cooperation just because I liked his work so much that I felt I knew how to add value — and honestly, I just wanted to. We didn't even invest in SEO or ads yet. We just spent two weeks getting absolute clarity on his roots. Then we moved his site from Wix to WordPress, updated the design, rewrote his content based on that clarity, and connected an automated calendar.
One week after launch the caliber of his clients instantly jumped. People now show up to meetings pre-educated and ready to pay. His content and calendar handle the tire-kickers automatically so his time is protected. He said this to me on our call tow day ago, and it inspired me to write this post: "While everyone else is crying about the global economy getting worse, my calendar is fully booked half a year upfront with higher-ticket projects."
Two weeks of clarity paid for the investment multiple times over, and it will compound for the rest of his career. Meanwhile, millions of small businesses are paying the deferred cost of inaction because they hesitate to just sit down and just think about what they are actually doing and for who. This can cost you your business!
Stop guessing. Stop running generic campaigns to generic pages.
Here is the absolute platinum rule of digital growth:
Specific Need ➔ Specific Ad ➔ Specific Page ➔ Seamless Booking.
When someone lands on your site, they should instantly understand what you do. Show them all the trust signals you have, show them all the examples you can, educate them, get their specific fears answered, and make them able to book a convenient time in a few seconds. That’s it.
Clarity is not a marketing trick. It is dead simple, but that is why it is so important and hard. It is the foundation of your legacy. Stop wasting your energy, sit down, do the deep foundational work, and watch how much easier business becomes.
And then remember to keep the loop open:
Research ➔ Build ➔ Market ➔ Get feedback ➔ Repeat
That is all you need.
If you keep postponing because you want to make it perfect. STOP. The real world will give you the right feedback. Just get clarity, write down the strategy, launch, and listen.
If you run, run, run and you think that "doing more" will fix it eventually. STOP. You are pouring your energy out with no intention. Listen to feedback, update, try. Listen to feedback, update, try.
If you have a good website but no traffic — pay for getting traffic! If you have traffic but no conversion — get clarity, do not waste people's time. You lead them to a place that gets them confused, you disservice them, and you are leaving money on the table.
I hope this helps someone get their head clear.
Have a good one!
