In 1924, George Mallory disappeared 800ft from Everest's summit. His body was finally found in 1999, 75 years later. And then in 2024, a hundred years after he disappeared, his climbing partner Sandy Irvine's foot emerged from a melting glacier. Whether they reached the summit or not is unknown.
